On October 28 we went to the Netherlands to Dark Forest. With my last team, I’ve went there once before during summer. We had a blast and decided we want to go back more frequent.
For the people who don’t know what Dark Forest is or where it lays (copied it form their site https://dark-forest.atcx.nl/):
Dark Forest is a site in Ulicoten. This site is over 9 hectares and offers many possibilities! The terrain is suitable for every player!
Various obstacles such as forts, watchtowers can be found on this fantastic playing field. There are also several trenches in the playing field with here and there bunkers.
This location is for 10 to 150 people.
Once again, I must say it was a blast to play, certainly because it was a Halloween skrim: monks, dinos, priests and zombies were present and eagerly waiting to kill you at the right time.
The day started with quite some problems with our replicas: the G&G Predator of Jeroen wouldn’t feed, my VFC HK416D wouldn’t get the range it normally has and my Vector and VSR10 just wouldn’t shoot straight. The replicas we had with us as a backup (and were used by friends that went with us for the first time) functioned without a fuzz… :p
Even though we had problems with our gear, we still had some amazing teamplay! Including some crazy run-and-gun moments. The Blue Team was stronger in the end, but still, we had a fun time!
In the afternoon we decided to play sidearm only, so we ran, dived and jumped through the whole field, hitting every enemy in our way. This worked because the enemy wasn’t expecting an assault like this. During our run-and-gun game, the enemy team had to escort a troop transport through the field. This was a nice challenge for them, but it seemed like they didn’t have a lot of problems getting where they should (players from our team were more in the safe zone than on the field). After this we had some left-over zombie gameplay, but since the escort mission took up most of the afternoon this gamemode was pretty short. Nonetheless, our team dug in and was able to witstand the rush of all zombies (once hit you became a zombie and had to hunt the others).
All in all it was another great skirm, only too bad that we had so much trouble getting our replicas to decently fire.
Bonus: At the end of the day we got a lift back with a troop transport 😀
